The breadth and intensity of our full therapeutic service is simply not available anywhere in the catchment area of the families that we currently support – Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Hampshire and South London.

Nurturing a child with a brain injury or motor learning impairment is a huge and exhausting challenge, often requiring 24/7 care. We support the health and wellbeing of the whole family, not just the child, who often tell us how frightened they felt until they found Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity. We receive no government funding. Without your donations, we could not help these families.

Our impact

We develop a carefully designed programme for each child we work with that aims to build on their abilities, focusing on what they can do rather than what they cannot. Within their development programme, children will have specific, achievable learning goals that challenge them. These are focused on the following key areas:

A young boy walking with walking sticks.

Gross motor skills

Developing physical skills, including sitting upright, crawling and walking.  In 2024, 63% of our children improved their gross motor skills.

A young girl with cerebral palsy painting.

Fine motor skills

Improving coordination of small muscles of the hands and feet, including grasping, gripping and picking up objects. In 2024, 56% of our children made progress with fine motor skills.

Communication skills
